LOCAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OFFICER- CLARENDON

The Local Economic Development Officer reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer or other designated person.  The individual is responsible for coordinating LED initiates aligned to the economic development priorities and the Clarendon Local Sustainable Development Plan of the Clarendon Municipal Corporation.

Qualifications: 

Bachelors’ Degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Business Management, Project Manager or other related field.
At least two (2) years’ experience in related field
Excellent Human Relation, Management and Communication skills.
Knowledge of economic development strategies and techniques
Excellent Knowledge of project implementation and development  

Responsibilities: 

Duties and Responsibilities:
                                   
Act as a first point of call for investment enquiries specific to LED.
Facilitate the development and implementation of LED Strategies; monitoring, reviewing and evaluating local area economic profiles and policies.
Assist with the improvement of policies targeted at creating and enabling the economic environment.
Act as liaison between local organizations, individuals and representatives of government, businesses and industries concerning economic development.
Develop and monitor grant project targeted at Clarendon youth in business
Support and coordinate the governance structures related to LED within the scope of the local authority.
Seek to create value chains for Clarendon agri-businesses
Prepares reports, make recommendations/presentations and attend Corporation meetings as required.
Examine the feasibility of the establishment of the May Pen township as a Business Improvement District (BID)
Identify the needs of local entrepreneurs and business start-ups for technical assistance.
Identify the LED needs and gaps existing within project communities, groups and individuals to assist with the development of a program of training, technical assistance and sources of support in response to same.
Establish and maintain contact with key national SME support agencies in the project thematic areas, e.g., community agro-tourism, agro-processing, marine protected areas, micro-financing, human resource development/capacity building among others.
