The Parish Disaster, Planning and Management Unit works alongside the Parish Disaster Committee and in conjunction with the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management to ensure that the parish is prepared for disasters by means of public education and by encouraging community programmes to help minimize or lessen the effects of disasters on communities. In the event of a disaster, the department’s mandate is to mitigate which includes the establishing of temporary emergency shelters and the distribution of emergency relief supplies to victims. The mandate of this department is to ensure that there is a multi disciplinary approach to disaster management and risk analysis and involves preparing for a disaster before it occurs, disaster response, support and rebuilding.
