Councillor for the Richmond Division, Richard Creary was elected and sworn in as Mayor of the St. Mary Municipal Corporation at a ceremony held on Thursday, December 10, 2016.

In his inaugural speech, Mayor Creary indicated that the construction/renovation of the Port Maria market as well as upgrading works at the St. Mary Infirmary are two of his major priories.
Additionally five (5) new Councillors namely Mitsy Hudson (Hampstead), Krystal Lee (Retreat), Sheldon Kidd (Oracabessa), Germaine Smiley (Port Maria) and Leroy Sewell (Boscobel) also took oath of affirmation.
Returning Councillors Lenford Danvers (Castleton), Doreen Hutchinson (Carron Hall), Lincoln Dixon (Islingston), Paul Fyffe (Highgate) and Former Mayor Levan Freeman (Belfield) also re- affirmed to serve the people of the Parish.
